FLOX X TRUSTME TRAIN

Auckland! Who’s Up For Bird Spotting?

Auckland Transport is rolling out a safety message on one of their electric trains—a Flox/TrustMe design colab.

Following on from the brief, we wanted to emphasise a level crossing safety concept but with a never seen before artistic approach.

We believe the artwork in itself will attract the attention of pedestrians at level crossings, due to it’s colourful and impactful nature, but also due to the text being something for people to work out and read – this will further enhance that connection people make with the message, and ideally will change peoples behaviour at level crossings.

Look Both Ways – can be read by the viewer either from the left or the right – and so works as a mirror image – again emphasising the Look Both Ways concept.

Throughout the text LOOK BOTH WAYS we have included a flock of flying Wax-eye Stencils – custom created for this brief. These little birds are in an array of different flying stances, looking both left and right to portray “movement” and “direction”.
The New Zealand wax-eye (or silvereye) is abundant in both urban and suburban back yards, and has a distinctive white ring around their eye — again making reference to our safety message (eyes open, pay attention, look both ways).

The overall look consists of both geometric and organic shapes to show both movement and homage to URBAN VS NATURE. … as a train takes passengers both to and from a suburban or rural setting to an urban one.

The mirror image of the text is an attention grabber as it comes into the viewer’s frame either from the left or the right direction.

Let me know if you see it flying past!
