BLUNT x FLOX

X September 13, 2023

Celebrating the seamless fusion of artistry and engineering innovation, the much-anticipated BLUNT x FLOX collaboration returns just in time for the season of spring showers.

Known for her stunning interpretations of nature’s beauty, FLOX has once again infused her distinctive trademark style of flora and fauna, intricate aerosol and stencil work and beautiful colour into this design.

Created as part of the Neo Tropica 2023 collection, this neon hued piece of art focuses on embracing the energy of nature and celebrating the life-force and connectivity of our eco systems.

Reminiscent of a luscious rainforest canopy, you can spot two fruit doves nestling themselves amongst a plethora of exotic inspired botanicals, drawing parallels to similar species found in both New Zealand and the wider Pacific region.

Of the design and choice of birds used, FLOX said, “I chose the fruit doves because they are similar to our native Kererū and just like the Kererū share a mutualistic relationship with Mother Nature.”

“Some birds and plants benefit from each other in a relationship called mutualism where the birds get food (nectar and fruit) from the plants, while the plants get pollinated and have their seeds spread to new places. It’s such a beautiful relationship and I really wanted to explore that in this design”

Having achieved notable success in previous collaborations, this marks the fourth time the two Kiwi icons have worked together in a partnership that continues to thrive and evolve.

The stunning design will once again be available in both the compact and convenient Metro size for $149.00, and the original full length Classic size for $169.00.

My Story

As an aerosol and stencil artist with a fine art degree, Flox has been making her mark on the inner cityscape of Auckland since 2003.

Her trademark native birds, ferns and flowers are a celebration of Aotearoa’s environmental taonga. Using distinctly vibrant and confident colour on a scale combined with delicacy they have magically transformed grey walls into vibrant depictions of the natural world.

Flox swiftly expanded her practice into prints, publications, murals, graphic design, live painting, projects and workshops for both schools and the wider public. She has been involved in numerous collaborations, charity work and both group and solo exhibitions.

Her accessible narratives have broadened the appeal and shaped her into one of New Zealand’s most recognised contemporary artists.

In recent years Flox has focused on refining new ideas, exploring other cultures and pushing her own artistic boundaries. This resulted in a three-month Artist Residency in Taiwan and a journey to Udaipur in India, to expand her international audiences.

Seen everywhere from Berlin, Hong Kong, New York, Taiwan, India and the US, Flox continues spreading her wings and making her presence felt across public spaces and homes worldwide.
