Kia ora and welcome to the FLOX Evolution

My Story

With her roots firmly stamped within the street art era of the early 2000’s, FLOX’s trademark style derived from the natural world is unquestionably recognisable today.

About FLOX

With her distinctively vibrant and bold colours, FLOX transforms blank spaces into vivid portrayals of our natural landscape. Her flora and fauna inspired compositions are a celebration of Aotearoa’s environmental Taonga.

FLOX has always maintained a philosophy of “making art for the people” and making her art accessible which saw FLOX take her own artistic lane by avoiding the traditional artist/gallery relationship.  Today, FLOX is one of New Zealand’s most recognised contemporary artists.

Her deep connection with land and culture is reflected wherever she picks up her artist tools, whether in the US, Europe, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, or back home in New Zealand.

Sharing is quintessentially FLOX. As she travels, she shares her unique skills through workshops for schools and wider communities. Her goal is to empower and improve the wellbeing of others through creativity.

Although renowned for her iconic murals, her practice extends to an ever expanding range of in-house products while her big brand collaborations with like-minded organisations (BLUNT, Air New Zealand, Bosch, Playstation, TVNZ), demonstrate her ability to adapt within an ever changing world of business, while still maintaining a pure yet highly versatile artistic pathway.

Honouring the Process

Rooted in a philosophy that cherishes the handmade, FLOX's artistry is distinguished by her meticulously hand-cut stencils—each a testament to the craft itself. These stencils, often celebrated as artworks in their own right, reflect a deep commitment to authenticity.

While FLOX holds the tradition of the hand-cut in high esteem, she also embraces technology as an integral part of her process. The synergy between craft and technology allows her to push creative boundaries, ensuring each piece is both a unique creation and a harmonious blend of the old and the new.

Art with Meaning

FLOX’s art is deeply rooted in her identity as a fine artist of Aotearoa, drawing inspiration from her connection to the natural world and the communities that shape her. Each piece she creates is more than an aesthetic expression; it is a tribute to the elements that ground her.

Every mural she paints is site-specific, thoughtfully crafted as a gift to the community it inhabits. These murals become enduring symbols, embraced by the wider community for years to come, fostering a lasting connection between art, place, and people.

Sustainable Collections

Inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th century—a movement that championed craftsmanship over mass production—FLOX brings this enduring ethos to life through her own distinctive lens. At the heart of her practice lies a commitment to sustainability, where the creation of long-lasting, beautiful collections takes precedence over fleeting trends.

Every piece is thoughtfully designed, marrying form and function to elevate everyday items into timeless treasures. These are not just objects but carefully crafted works of art meant to be cherished, offering both beauty and utility. By focusing on quality over quantity, FLOX ensures that her creations stand the test of time, reflecting her dedication to crafting pieces that resonate deeply with those who appreciate the intersection of art, sustainability, and enduring elegance.

Giving Back

FLOX is dedicated to nurturing the creative spirit and sharing her lifelong passion for art with others. Through her workshops, she offers a gateway for both students and adults to delve into her distinctive techniques and craftsmanship. Her teaching goes beyond the transmission of skills; it is a heartfelt commitment to inspiring others to embrace their own creativity.

By fostering a deeper appreciation for the creative process, FLOX not only imparts valuable knowledge but also encourages individuals to discover the profound joy and fulfilment that art can bring. Her community engagement is a testament to her belief in the power of creativity to connect, inspire, and elevate.
