Kōtuku In The Cut: Matariki Edition is the 5th of it’s kind, and represents the essence of the artist’s craft.Here, the stencil becomes the artwork in it’s own right, allowing for the simplicity and sophistication of the artists’ cut outs to be celebrated.
The artwork pays homage to New Zealand’s environmental taonga,ancient mahinga kai principles and traditional food practices around Matariki.
The Kumara plant, once a vital food source is enveloped by the revered Kōtuku (White Heron), while the flow and rhythm of the birds feathers make reference to our land and water.
Meticulously hand cut into Fabriano archival paper stock.
Choose to take unframed, or frame with a float mount box frame, accentuating the play on shadows as the light travels through the cuts of the stencil.
